7 Out of 10!

Seven out of ten women are struggling in the wrong size bra.

Their band pinches them, they are uneven filling their cups, they spill out of their cups, the straps are always slipping off their shoulders, the underwire pokes them, their bustline is undefined, their bustline hangs low, the list of complaints women express against their bras is endless …..

When we see ladies for a bra fitting (YES, Elizabeth’s is happy to fit all ladies and we specialize in ladies at either end of the spectrum from very tiny and petite to full figured G and H cups), it always comes out that they have not been fitted for a bra in years, if ever. We all take care to choose clothing and footwear that fits properly, and your bra is no different. I don’t wear the same clothes or shoes I wore 25 years ago, and my bra size has changed as well.

Treat yourself to a free bra fitting and save yourself the aggravation of discomfort that comes from taking care of everyone and everything but yourself. Women are the ‘shock absorbers’ for society and we run interference to save those we love from any discomfort we can prevent. Put yourself on the list of people you care about and give yourself 30 minutes to improve your appearance and comfort. Call 905 433-0122 for your private appointment today.

How many times do I hear this statement in a day, a week, a month ….? I have learned so much from women over the 40 years I have been serving at Elizabeth’s and there is a sadly common theme - one that runs the spectrum from frugality to outright neglect. I too am the CFO (chief financial officer) of our family and I too am a ‘middle aged gal (53) however I have learned the hard way to put myself on the never ending ‘to do’ list that plagues women everywhere. I used to feel that pretty lingerie and attractive foundation garments where an extravagance I could ill afford; there where more important demands competing for our household $$’s - mortgage, groceries, vet bills, school activities etc. etc. etc. Yes - these are all important AND investing in quality bras and panties that fit well, feel good and last a long time (if you keep them out of the clothes dryer) are important as well. When my bra and panties fit well and look nice, I feel prettier. When I feel prettier I am more likely to put my best self forward, be it at work, in social settings, at the Dr’s or even treating myself to an evening at home with Finnegan and my knitting.

Getting ready for Autumn and the coming holiday season? Why not treat yourself to a bra fitting (there is no cost to be fitted) and if something feels as good as I know it can - you can feel good about your purchase during the month of October as our annual ‘Support Hearth Place Cancer Support Center’ campaign runs all month - $5 from the sale of EVERY bra in October will be donated to Hearth Place.

Elizabeth’s—For Every Day

Some ladies wear their breast prosthesis and bras for special occasions only, when they want to look especially nice. What’s wrong with this? Some ladies wear their breast prosthesis and bras for special occasions only, when they want to look especially nice. What’s wrong with this? At first blush it seems like a reasonable way to get the longest life out of your breast form and bras however; when we wear something infrequently, we never really get use to it. Have you ever had to get used to a new prescription lenses in your eye glasses? Would you wear the new prescription on special occasions only, when you really needed to see, or would you persevere through those first few days while your eyes adjust to the new prescription?

If your prosthesis feels too heavy, first investigate a new bra; a correctly fitted bra can make a huge difference. Women are notorious for looking after everyone else before themselves - when was the last time you had your bra size checked? Bra fittings are free at Elizabeth’s, we are happy to teach you what to look for in a well-fitting bra. Like clothes, different manufacturers have different size standards so you may be comfortable in different sizes depending on the style and manufacturer of the bra. I can no longer wear the 36A I wore in my twenties (unless you butter me up and drop me from the CN tower), at 52 I require a different band, cup and style - thank goodness I know where to find what I need.

Appointments?

Why do I need to make an appointment? You are welcome to stop by Elizabeth’s anytime you like however; if you prefer not to wait and/or are coming from a distance we recommend an appointment, so a specific time is reserved for you. After 36 years of business Elizabeth’s is well known and we serve a large area – there are days we serve 15 ladies and days we serve 2 ladies – appointments help us direct the flow of traffic so that we can serve as many ladies as possible without anyone having to wait. If you are able to get a ride or your girlfriend is suddenly free to accompany you – give us a call, we will do our best to see you as soon as we’re free – possibly within the same day.

Just last month Rachael was by herself when I was attending my Grandmother’s funeral – we had one lady booked for 10 am, while Rachael was fitting that client – three other ladies walked in. Rachael explained that she was alone and would be with them as soon as she could. Had the other ladies called ahead – Rachel could have asked them to come at 11, 12:30 and 2 pm. After waiting 15 minutes one lady left annoyed – we don’t want anyone to be disappointed and at the same time we can not rush a fitting. Those of you who are fitted at Elizabeth’s know that it can take some time to find the most comfortable bra and prosthesis combination.

On top of the careful fitting of your prosthesis and bras every woman in Ontario needs to complete the application for the Ministry of Health’s Breast prosthesis grant; Many ladies have extended health insurance that requires a prescription and other paperwork to be completed. We typically have 15 minutes of paperwork to complete to ensure that each task has been attended to accurately. If you are new to us or have a new insurance provider – we have to confirm your coverage while you are in the office (new privacy laws) and this requires additional time. Elizabeth’s is a boutique that caters to your post mastectomy needs and also completes all necessary paperwork on your behalf – for these reasons we need a minimum of an hour between fittings.

Summer months (May, June, July & August) are particularly busy as warmer weather necessitates a good fitting prosthesis and bra to look our best in lighter clothing. We are always open from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday; evening and Saturday appointments are available upon request. Hopefully this explains how appointments help us, do our best job, to help you.
